Slopaganda is the use of cheap, high-volume, AI-generated content to manipulate public opinion, spread conspiracy theories, or drown out legitimate information. It is the AI-generated version of traditional misinformation. It's crude and highly repetitive messaging that pushes an agenda with little care for accuracy, nuance, or originality.
Exploiting Bias
The term emerged in the early–mid 2020s alongside the increasing popularity of generative AI. It's dismissive and media-savvy. It signals that the speaker/sender has clicked that what they're looking at is low-effort, manipulative, and not worth serious engagement.
Among those who don't recognize slopaganda for what it is, Boomers are somewhat over-represented. This is largely because they entered social media before algorithmic manipulation and AI-generated content became dominant. That said, slopaganda works on every generation. The formats just change. While Boomers might share the most slopaganda on Facebook, it is designed to hack everyone's brain by exploiting whatever bias we already have.
